All you need is there. Will take you through the steps of using the GTTR (UCAS tbh) to apply.

oh, if you do an ordinary (and tbh, even if you do an Post-Compulsory) you will need to get some pre-experience in a school/college before the course, and preferably the interview.

Smugly, I got paid £400 for mine, but you'll probably have to volunteer. TDA can arrange it for you or you can just ring up your local school/college. They'd be happy to have a GTA in the classroom, so you'd only have to get a backround check done (which they may even cover for you) and you're away. </BLOCKQUOTE>

thanks. i had a read earlier and im trying to figure how screwed i am to do a subject completely different from my degree. pretty it seems.

GTP is hard work but you get paid for doing it. PGCE breaks you in a bit more gently and prolongs the student lifestyle. GTPs are popular in schools as they're cheap.

They're a bit of a con, frankly, as the school will never give you the support you need at first, but it does provide a shortcut to qualifying.

Generally at good universities, they're looking for three things in a candidate for a faculty position - teaching, fundraising, and publications. The second two are both research-based, so you can see where priorities lie. For any decent uni though, you'll definitely need a PhD to teach, unless you're extremely well-respected in your field, or a grad student helping out.

Some unis (usually not so great ones) hire people purely as lecturers, who do not contribute any research. At a strong uni though, research is the priority and it is in this respect that you should have "achieved something."
