By a 10 year old! Well he did a good job I do agree, don't see how it could be expected of him though.

No, that would be an overreaction. I think what you're looking for there was the word "uneducated".

Still the lack of parental supervision that's responsible for the kid's death. </BLOCKQUOTE>

So your point is kids should be allowed out to play, but only as long as they live at least 5 miles from the nearest road or watercourse?

Bit tricky that, in England.

And? What age do you reckon kids should be locked up until?

Depends on the age of the child Bert. Letting a five year out without proper adult supervision is at best lazy parenting. The 'well I was out playing in the street from six months old' argument doesn't wash.

If the same group of kids had been left at home alone, and one of them had set the house on fire and they all burnt to death, would that have been acceptable? No because it's actually illegal to leave kids under 12 or something unsupervised at home. Yet you can happily send these same kids to a lake, have one of them drown on you and then blame everyone else for it.

I don't think they should. And accidents will always happen. But if the mother wants to find someone to blame for an/the accident then it's the kid/s or herself that it should be aimed at. Not a random innocent bystander.

I know I'm repeating myself here, but I seriously doubt she 'sent them' to the lake.

Also repeating myself, who's supporting the mother?
