going back to my original point, this is an example of how ****ing rubbish britain has become, but it's not that difficult to understand if you have as low an opinion of the emergency services (except for mountain rescue, who are awesome) as i do.

just in case redefining form comes in here later, no, that does not mean i think they should be privatised.

One person dying, although tragic, is preferrable to two people dying when trying to rescue someone in trouble.

Plus the fact that in this day and age, if they had 'helped' by doing something they weren't trained to do and he'd still died, they'd be open to be sued. And you can bet your life they would have been by some lawyer on the make.
