I'm guessing they won't mail the tix overseas? If not, I can't think of a good way round, except for you to get a debit card, as it comes in handy for just this sort of thing.
I'm almost positive that you can't use someone else's credit card to send the tix to an address that isn't his billing address, so don't bother trying to find someone in NY to hold the tix for you, unless they're also going to buy them for you.
If all you have is cash, and tix are sold out by the time you get to town, on the day of the event there are usually ticket scalpers outside looking for people who need tix. This is a fairly dodgy way to do things, as it is, at best, only quasi-legal, and these guys sometimes offer up counterfeit tix. But they are pretty reliable about being outside. Maybe the best way to handle it, if you go this route, is to wait to see if someone approaches them and sells them their extra tickets. Then you can have more confidence that you're getting genuine tickets. But you (probably) have to pay well above face value, even if the law says otherwise.

It is also illegal to sell (or buy) tickets to concerts, Broadway shows, sporting events, etc., on the street for more than 10% above the stated ticket price. This does not include city-sponsored ticket outlets, rather it refers to the people you'll find outside an event walking through a crowd asking "who needs tickets?" This practice is called "ticket scalping". Although many people scalp tickets to sold-out events, you will generally pay a much higher price for tickets and sometimes the tickets are invalid or fake. To find tickets to sold-out events, it is better to use a ticket broker.
