The ear does not function, but he hopes to have a microphone implanted to allow others to listen to what his extra ear picks up.
Surely just the sound of his arm rubbing against his side as he walks? It's not exactly a very good position to pick anything interesting up. Even without that, what's the point, youd hear exactly the same stuff you'd hear if you held the microphone in your hand
