Changing over is pretty easy, it's just a case of being enthusiastic for teaching the other subjects - if the school has a shortage/gap in their cover, etc.

| I teach multimedia and computing in an FE college. DiDA, system support, flash, photoshop - that sort of thing.
It's a good job, I still enjoy it and I get on great with the kids due to being youngish (28), and very much into music, films and computer games. I'm also quite laid-back (which helps) and up for a laugh with them which is definitely a positive but still learning where and how to draw boundaries. Adults are the best though because you can be more honest with them and not feel like you have to be an authority figure all the time.

If I don't absolutely love the subject, will I hate it?

| Hmm. I think it certainly helps to love your subject. I love history and politics so I almost have to stop myself having hour long chats with the kids about whatevers been in the news or whatever, and it never really gets boring.
Will also be a bit of a drag doing repeat lessons year on year if you're a bit apathetic about the content - it's enough of a bore when you're really into it.

Sorry to double post but it occurred to me Zaitsev that you're probably a similar age to me and quite possibly have a similar relationship with your learners with regards to chatting with them about games and stuff and generally having a bit of a laugh with them. I'm assuming you also have a relatively dark sense of humor given your yellow card. I sometimes have to stop myself talking to them as I would a mate - do you suffer from this? I speak before I think sometimes and mentioned the word "wolfbagging" to a bunch of 16 year olds (boys, thankfully). Stupid word to bring up but we were talking about words that sound a bit German. Of course, they went "what's that?" and looked it up on the internet. I spent the rest of the year telling them to stop going on about it! Need to stfu sometimes.

| It's probably not that important tbh. There's so much other stuff going on in the classroom that, from your perspective, the actual topic can be the last thing on your mind. If you know what you are doing and know your subject well enough that part it pretty much second nature.
I will say that it can be a bit of a chore teaching the theoretical aspects of IT. Not because you are bored with it but because a lot of the learners will be if you don't teach it in the right way (ie. don't lecture it). In my experience, kids like the practical side of IT but hate the theory side. Luckily, I don't have to teach that sort of thing any more and just get to teach the fun stuff.

| Aye, it can be a bit of a...problem having to constantly catch yourself. On reflection, teaching one of my history classes various Russian swearwords probably wasn't the best idea I ever had On hte other hand, I think the benefits outweights the problems associated with relative teaching youth .

Not actually swearing myself is a bit of a challenge. Accidentally let the old F-word slip a few times in the past, not out loud but just in general conversation
Worst I've done was tell a girl she was p*ssing me off in front of a class. She was being very annoying at the time. The looked shocked Should have called her a stupid cnut and be done with it.
