I went to the seminar tonight and it was really. They gave away a laptop too (I didn't win it ), but I had some free wine, which is always a plus. I got to talk to some teachers and some 'advisors'. They were all very helpful.

80% leaning to secondary now. Probably ICT as it fits in with my degree, and you get the £9,000 bursary and £2,500 golden hello. The guy there also seemed to think it would be pretty easy to teach other subjects rather quickly once you're a qualified teacher. Is this the case?

Still going to try to do some volunteering work, or at least ask one of my old teachers if I can just sit in the back of their class and observe what goes on.

To get the 'golden handshake' you have to start teaching your 4th term, so he said it's quite usual for newly qualified teachers to leave at Christmas of their second year and go traveling or whatever and then come back.

I'd still like to travel and/or do a Camp America sort of thing before I get too old.

If I don't get accepted I'll just do a Camp America style thing, anyway. It will look great on my CV for when I apply again.

Does anyone know what sort of time you have to apply for a Camp America type thing? I preferably don't want to go through the official Camp America as it's more expensive.

I went to a prep school and it was absolutely brilliant. Posh private secondary school not as good. Prep school kids start boarding at 8. I was a day boy so didn't.

I'm not sure I could handle secondary, I find a lot of the 16 year olds I teach annoying enough without having to put up with even younger. They can be hilarious at times but sometimes just downright mongish.

We've got this issue at the moment with Moodle (the VLE), specifically the chat facility. Spent ages trying to eradicate MS effing N and now this thing comes along and I'm forever telling the little bastards to stop chatting on it. I also get weird messages on it from students quite a lot.
