If you really need the money, I think you should go in, explain the sick leave and like she offered - see if there are any other vacancies you can take for a bit

i scheduled laser surgery on that date before i started the job so that i could save for it.

Did you not tell your employers that you had this scheduled and would need the time off before you started the job?

no, but i did mention it last week and then i told them yesterday and they seemed happy with it.

though maybe i should have let them know earlier.

This is not a sacking, you dont sack anyone by email, there is a certain procedure for this kind of thing, official letters, phone calls etc, most probation periods are a minimum 3 months, if you were ill, made an effort to come in to work and were sent home because they saw you were ill I dont see how they would just send you an email saying "by the way, xxxx has said this" If "xxxx" is your boss, he/she should be contacting you personally.

They have asked you to come in and discuss other possible positions, just sounds like whatever position you were given actually required you to turn up, were you promoted from a previous position within the company or is it a new job?
