Some of those city statuses demand explanation. Preston in 2002? Why?

I was going to say Ely in Cambridgeshire, but being the only place outside of London to hold the Boat Race and having Oliver Cromwell as a tax collector in the 17th century might count for something.

It looks like it coupld be Ripon in North Yorkshire.

from an outsider perspective (not biased) I'd say Chichester, no wait Lichfield, literally never heard of that place. Truro?

Newport. Only really gave us the GLC and that suspension bridge thing. Otherwise it's a glorified, concrete gypsy camp.

shaddap.

There now follow spurious claims on greatness:

Leicester - Home of the National Space Centre, the UK's first environment city and Adrian Mole

Nottingham - Robin Hood, innit

Derby - ummmmmmmmmmmm, the furthest point south that the jacobites got!

Portsmouth not contributed to our history/culture? Absolute moron.

I'd go with Derby like that other guy said. Pleasant enough place but absolutely no character whatsoever
