We got it early September - seriously considering cancelling my contract. Quite simply the worst piece of **** ive ever unfortunately dealt with.
For one thing, according to BT, our local telephone exchange and Sky themselves, we should be obtaining around 1MB/s AT LEAST, ive paid for the 16MB option so that for a start is rubbish. I also know that we live 370 metres away from the exchange so it should actually be a much, much higher figure than that. Instead we're lucky to get 100kb/s, at the moment its dialup speed. After 5 hours of calls they still dont know what to do its a joke. Im still considering my options at this stage, but definately do NOT get involved if you can help it.

A while back some internet expert said even though it says 16mb broadband, no one is ever gonna get that for a few years, they`ll struggle to get 2mb even in the best possible area. Which means you`re paying for something your not even getting. I`ve got 2mb and mine probably goes to 1mb, whether that`s true or not i don`t know but if i was paying out an extra £10 a month, i would find out if my area supports 8 or 16mb first.

Well, got my phone line installed yesterday and have checked the number today on Sky's website. Apparently my line can support speeds of up to 5.5mb, although to be honest I'd be happy with 2mb.
Am going for the £5 a month option, mainly as the free one only gives a 2gb usage limit - and I don't like usage limits.
So Sky are coming tomorrow to install Sky+ etc, so if all goes to plan I should have broadbad next week sometime. Hoping it lives up to the positive comments from this thread, and not the negative ones..

I've had mine a year now, and apart from the first couple of months I haven't had any connection problems (except when the exchange goes down, BT boo )
But I do get crap speeds because I'm so far away from the exchange |

Can I just add - I hate BT.
But my line is in now, so here's hoping there are no more problems!

Also, is there any way to tell how far away from the exhange you are? Or is it just a case of knowing where the exhange is?

enter your post code / phone number, click 'check' then click on locatality and it should give you a rough distance from you to your exchange.

Ah cheers.
Apparently I'm about 1.32km away from the exchange, so may not see fantastic results.
So long as it's faster than my current dial-up then I won't be too fussed, tbh.

You'd probably see about 4 or 5Mbps. I'm about 2km from my exchange and I get jsut over 2.5Mbps, but also bear in mind that the map is straightline distance (as the crow flies). The cabling could potentially add a lot more distance.
