Win win for him
| Yeah, the 'magpie budget' has really helped him. Ditto Darling becoming known as the 'puppet Chancellor'. The latter is interesting actually, if the economy really does go downhill, there will be absolutely no way for him to avoid the blame as far as I can see. Not only was he running the economy for 10 years, people still perceive him to be doing so.

You’re saying he’s done a lot of damage to his and the party’s reputation but I think you’re making too big a deal out of it. People barely gaf now and will have forgotten all about it by Christmas.
| Portillo was saying last week on This Week that on reflection, the Tories should have called an election in 1996 as they would have got a better result despite still losing. One could choose to view this in a similar light.

| And therein lies the crux of the situation, GB has categorically denied that the about turn was due to the party performing badly and all about his desire to run the country his way.
Even the most ardent of Labour supporters must realise that this line is b*ll*cks.

So what do you want him to do? Admit he thought they’d get their arse kicked? Not going to give off the right image is it?

| Obviously not.
But at least you're admitting that he has lied in regards to the reasons as to why he changed tack. |

| And your reasons behind this statement (political reasoning rather than personal opinion please)?
(fwiw, I'm not a big fan of DC either, but he's got the job and so we must do the best we can).

| Never once denied it, I just don’t see that he’s caused as much damage to himself or his party as you’re trying to make out.

| he'll destroy the country because he didn't call an election after hinting he might?
on the same basis, cameron to take power and turn britain into a state run by drug money, on the basis that he might have taken drugs while at university?
