You're missing the whole point of this, GB was going to call a snap election as they thought the time was right.
The PM's office notified the press to this situation and so the story started to run.
The polls then swung away and it seemed that he may not get the majority he expected and so he walked away.
He chickened out, plain and simple, and the press have picked this up and are going to hammer him for it. </BLOCKQUOTE>

he, just like ANYONE, is not going to go into an election if the numbers/polls appear unfavourable.. there is no sense in it. and he doesnt really care if, right now in the immediate reaction, people think he's a 'chicken'.
the press 'hammering' will be no more than they hammer PMs for pretty much every topic of discussion in politics. it'll come, it'll go.
