Joy Division are so overrated its untrue.
As stated above theres far better bands who had far more impact on music then them.
They seem to be more famous because of Ian Curtis death and I wonder how well remembered they would be if he hadnt died.

Joy Division was a very good band. So were the Psychedelic Furs. Joy Division was better, but they were similar, which is to say they were both following in Bowie's and the Velvet Underground's footsteps. I like Joy Division, but suggesting that they were in any way innovators is ridiculous.

Neither Joy Division nor The Stone Roses were particularly influential in the grand scheme of things. In the latter's case, the only thing they influenced were a large number of people who should never have been allowed to make music.

Numerous bands from roughly that timeframe, for me, which I'd stick on any time before Joy Division - PiL, Wire, The Cure, Talking Heads, Magazine, The Fall, XTC, Teardrop Explodes, Suicide, Devo, Gang of Four, The Associates, Cocteau Twins, Pere Ubu, The Adverts, The Residents. Can't imagine many biopics of these guys any time soon, maybe for the best.
