If I'm on holiday I'll tip 10% roughly on a meal. If it's local I won't bother.

I'm kinda feeling guilty about not tipping my hairdresser earlier, he's a really nice chap and always gives top quality cuts in quite a posh establishment. I get sent to the desk to pay so it's kinda hard to leave him a tip.

Some people just deserve them.

I do the whole "£3-4? Here's a fiver" thing in taxis, etc though.

If its going to be in my interests then I'll tip big, for example waitress service at a bar, first drink gets brought over, big tip, dont have to wait for a drink the rest of the time.

restaurants if service has been good.
cabs is he gauges my mood correctly, ie chats if Im being chatty, shuts up if I make it obvious I dont want to talk.
bars that give you change on plate can **** right off if they think they are getting anything.

Whs. The old change on the plate trick is so obvious. What's funny is that it's actually really inconvenient for the staff to fiddle around with those little plates rather than just pass you the cash.

Places / people who try tricks like this get nothing.

My haircut costs £5, I paid with a tenner and the lass opened the till, reached for a fiver for my change (Of which there was a pile), then changed her mind and gave me 5 £1 coins, guessing that it would be easier for me to give her a tip that way.

I wouldn't care but I already had a quid in my hand to give back to her, but as a result of that she got nothing.
