My sister is a hairdresser and they get taxed on tips even if they dont get any. Government decided to start doing it. They say on average they will get x amount on tips, so are taxed on that. Even if they dont get close to that figure
pretty much never when im in the UK, ill encourage everyone to leave a bit extra at restaurants but its hard enough to get people to even pay their share never mind more, ill throw an extra quid in the tip plate at the barbers and anywhere else that has them
tip like a madman in the US because everythings so cheap even in vegas, throw a dollar to the guy opening doors of taxis or hotels, 20% extra to taxi drivers, 30% extra for meals, leave a load for the maid etc
think id tone it down a bit if i was living there permanently

many companies don't allow it? wtf?
yeah because it then leads to people giving preferential treatment to some customers over others. (indeed what tips where originally designed for). </BLOCKQUOTE>
 exactly-one of the 1st things i've been told in 2 retail jobs is to politely decline any tips

i tip my hairdresser (mainly as she's one of the only people capable of cutting my hair-my aunty's a qualified hairdresser and refuses due to how hard it is to cut ) normally give her couple of quid tip
can't be bothered tipping anymore generally, everyone I would tip is probably getting paid more than I am and not working any harder, occasionally let them keep the change, or will tip if they are really good, but even then I'm not going to tip loads.

oh. well i'd've still took them and then told my boss to **** off if he'd said anything derogatory about it.
think the action taken was the sack
besides that i was there to help them anyway & if they're a **** they'll get what they deserve(they'll have meals which are shat spat and go knows what else'd in)
was once accused of being on commission though as i was so helpful
just shouted down to my mate "how much commission are we on?" reply was "chuff all" & a massive laugh
it's not expected for bar staff over here so no they don't get it, and i'm one myself before anybody says anything. I tip lounge staff (girls/boys who take orders and bring drinks to your table in a pub which i've never seen anywhere but Ireland). I tip for a hair cut, had the sexiest Lithuanian today, she gave me a head massage, it was bliss after a stressful week in work. I don't "tip" taxi drivers, I just give them the difference. I give the Big Issue people a few quid, but don't take their magazine, don't know if that comes under tip or charity, okay I do but I want to sound nice.
