Probably will do wonders to European national teams and to international football as well.

Jesus Christ, just accept that football is a global game etc. TBH I don't care if Dortmund have any local players at all. As long as they win they can play with 11 players from Greenland if they want...

That was my point...in England the nationality thing is a bit of a red herring. We need to look at the internal rules and change the fact it's easier for Arsenal to sign a 15yr old from Barcelona than one from Bradford. </BLOCKQUOTE>
What??? You aren't making much sense really...
The english WP rules tries to favour english players while the CL rules doesn't give a fcuk about nationality and hence is the one helping Arsenal.

| Well that are contract clauses and not laws. They don't really breach any laws either and are present in many other jobs too (stock trading firms comes to mind). Though mostly outside football it is the person being restricted from taking a new job of the same kind for a specified period of time, football clubs do the compensation instead but it's the same principle. | Very poor example. EU would have had a big beef with that rule had it still been in effect. Quote:

I think something like this might be needed in England before long - it almost looks like Scottish football did back about 7 years ago when you'd be hard pressed to find a scottish player in any of the teams. Which neatly coincided with a spell of decline. A few years ago a rule like this would have crippled Celtic, for example. Now it would make no difference at all.
What happened in Scotland was that the TV money dried up, and all the clubs - including Celtic and Rangers - had no option but to bring through young players. In some cases entire squads of youth products. Hibs in particular did this to perfection, they competed closely with us and Rangers for several seasons, and they practically make up the backbone of the Celtic team that just beat the european champions. The result is a huge increase in the quantity and quality of players we're bringing through now and far better performances in general - even our crappy teams like Aberdeen (and rangers ) are doing quite well in Europe.
Admittedly, most of the SPL is miles behind the top 3 (hibs seem a wee bit better than the rest) this season, but as more players come through to replace the ones sold it will improve a bit.
The money disappearing isn't going to happen any time soon in England or several other european leagues that are having similar problems, so something else needs to be done.

In reality, this is all about power and money Quote:
Billions are at stake. "We have started our planning for the next [TV] rights deal," said Scudamore, who believes fees will rise again for the 2010-2013 period, from their present £1.7billion. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. We are in a maturing pay-TV market. I don't think we have maxed out. There is more scope, more places to go. As long as the interest in the game is there, we should be able to take it on again. Internationally, there is some growth to go.
"International TV rights were 10 per cent of our income, and are now 28 per cent of our income. We could be at 50 per cent of our income in three years' time [with international rights touching £1billion]. But it's not just a case of taking these commercial dollars from these people. We need to give something back internationally, so we are doing community work in India, in townships in South Africa, in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Egypt."

The easiest way to get round the EU law on this matter would be to say, clubs can 'employ' whomever they like under EU law, however they do not have to be allowed to play matches as the national FA's still set the rules of registration
5 is unrealistic, 8 foreigners is more appropriate
