Andy Impey should sign for us. Him and Galatasaray's Lincoln. Imagine the shirt sales!

aren't they though?

the whole 'you can't file a lawsuit against FIFA or any affiliated association' thing kinda reeks of being above the law.

i've wondered why they haven't looked for a loophole to exploit this rule to suit themselves for a while now, and i suspect it may be coming. no legal expert ofc, but arguing something like players are paid to train, not to play; and then outlawing bonus/appearance payments. if they win that argument they could set whatever limitations on selections they like.

and strictly speaking, football and employment law don't exactly mix. otherwise a player could argue that limiting the size of a team to just 11 players is an arbitrary and unfair restraint of trade.

having said all that, i'm quite against any artificial sanctions imposed based on nationality. it breeds mediocrity.

Im a bit 50/50 on this.

I think a better idea would be to implement a match day ruling of, let's say, three players in the squad must under twenty one and British.

If English players can't cope with competing with the best foreign players, they weren ever going to be World Cup winners anyway. If they can, they will benefit from playing with such high quality football. Those that can't will still benefit from learning from higher standard players. The current system benefits national teams, benefits the development of youngsters and improves the general standard of football. We've reached three quarter finals in a row. 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

until players start refusing to play as all they have to do is train to get their money, or indeed train at one team, and then go and play for another whenever they like.

Surely it wont help the smaller nations either. A random Estonian/Togolese/Trinidadian will get less of a look in as clubs have to pick home grwon players. Therefore those smaller nations wont have players in the big leagues which wont strengthen and improve their national teams which in turn wont help the advancement of their domestic league.

Footballers are workers too Blatter you twonk, they are paid reguarly for the work they do. They arent artists they dont sell their performances to the club after the match for the highest fee they can (sounds like an idea though )

Bloody cretin
I was assured by a pal who's an expert in euro employment law that football can get around the various laws that seem to prohibit such a rule. He did explain it fully to me, but my eyes glazed over and I started drifting off into my fantasy world again.
