| Would not work as it is the UEFA (and thereby FA too) rules that has to follow EU law. It isn't the clubs that have rules against foreigners. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Thats barely cohesive. On this one Blatter is right though, a reasonable limit on foreigners (say 8 in the XI) would change little (apart from Arsenal perhaps) and help a lot in the long run too.

That was my point...in England the nationality thing is a bit of a red herring. We need to look at the internal rules and change the fact it's easier for Arsenal to sign a 15yr old from Barcelona than one from Bradford. </BLOCKQUOTE>
What??? You aren't making much sense really...
The english WP rules tries to favour english players while the CL rules doesn't give a fcuk about nationality and hence is the one helping Arsenal. </BLOCKQUOTE>
I'm not talking about WP or Champions League rules. I'm talking about the rules governing which youngsters clubs can recruit to their academies.

Well I'll try it again. It isn't allowed to stop EU-citizens to work due to their nationality.
And your idea (to limit how many that is allowed on the pitch) would bee seen as such a restriction and hence it won't work with EU-citizens (and now probably not with the 94 Cotonou countries too).

Well the post I responded to was this. Quote:

not sure why they need to take it this far. Why not apply the quota rules from the Champions League to domestic competition?

And I responded with... Quote:

And that I stand by. The CL rules has nothing to do with nationality (what Blatter was on about). And it has even less to do with the rules for recruiting youngsters (that you somehow added to the discussion).
Even though I think it might be a good idea to make the CL rules come in play for all domestic leagues too I still can't see why you suggested it as it doesn't solve any issue that has been discussed here.

The WP rules don't favour English players though, they favour EU players, which I feel is important to bring up.
I (think) James was alluding to the fact that before we look at CL rules for home grown players (which as had been pointed out don't care about nationality), we need to sort out FA rules making it easier for a club like Arsenal to sign any 16 year old from any other country inside the EU, rather than a lad from York.

| But, but, but... It was HE who made the suggestion of using the CL rules.

Yea I know. They are meant to favour brittish citizens but the EU kind of stops that.
If they work or not is a different question where we first need to decide what it is we want them to do. (but I think I agree )
