I think Wimbledon might have put sand in the corners to hold the ball up.

People are talking of the evil things Beck did at Cambridge but at the root of it was his use of statistics for everything in the game. He worked out how many shots were taken resulting in goals, not just for his club i dont think and would instruct his players to do things based on these ever moving stats. Something like that anyway. Was very effective.

Was with Jesper Olsen, wasn't it? </BLOCKQUOTE>

It was with Olsen at Ajax IIRC but i thought he might have done it with the Dutch national side as well but could be wrong.

If you're gonna talk penalties then you have to doff the cap to Antonin Panenka of Czechoslavkia, final of Euro '76 against West Germany and the first player i ever saw do that run up and deft chip from the spot. Scored and that was the pen to win the Euros for them. What a time to be doing it. Superb. Definitely against the grain

Which Premiership team was the first to start mucking about with the new offside rule at free kicks? Would deliberately stick a couple of players miles offside to distract the defenders.
Bolton and Ruud van Nistelrooy did this. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Thought Bolton might have done it. Can remember a manager slagging off the new rule after a game after having set his team out to take advantage of it. Was thinking it might have been Strachan at Southampton. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Strachan still does it with Celtic with big Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink doing the honours.

Back in the day used to confuse the hell out of teams
Back when in the early 60's Hibs had Joe Baker who was known as a class player. We played Barca away and the knew to keep a close eye on Baker who they thought wore number 9. Hibs swapped shirts for Baker and we won 4-3 or something like that \o/
