haha what about the other season when man city really needed to score in the last few minutes of the game. They're got Jon Macken on the bench but proceed to bring David James on and stick him up front That was pure comedy
TBH, i'd rather play David James than Jon Macken upfront. </BLOCKQUOTE>
'Tis disappointing how his career has nose dived since leaving us.
He was awesome when he was playing for us though.

Holland's squad numbers for the world cup '74 being assigned alphabetically (apart from Cruyff) rather than the norm. E.g Ruud Geels was a striker and wore the no.1 shirt, Jan Jongbloed was a keeper and wore the no.8 shirt.

van Gaals Ajax was a novelty. Every line expected to be able to play in the line before/behind them at the moment possession changes, one touch football, combined with mad individual skills should the opportunity to use them arise. Most total of total football ever.

I should add here that there has been a trend recently to play wingers on the oppsite side of the foot they use.
I'm not sure if Mourinho pioneered it but I know Barcelona have used it with Messi on the right and Ronaldinho on the left, as a result of crosses not impacting the same way any more

Giggs and Beckham would swap quite a bit and this was years ago, Giggs and Sharpe would do it even more iirc.

Which Premiership team was the first to start mucking about with the new offside rule at free kicks? Would deliberately stick a couple of players miles offside to distract the defenders.
Bolton and Ruud van Nistelrooy did this. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Thought Bolton might have done it. Can remember a manager slagging off the new rule after a game after having set his team out to take advantage of it. Was thinking it might have been Strachan at Southampton.
