I've been asked to help with some friends' band who are recording a few studio tracks this month. These recordings will hopefully become an EP, but they're looking for some original ways of getting noticed, ideally in the form of public performances, publicity stunts, etc.
The problem is, we want them to be original, but in the case of public performances, rooftop concerts and playing on the back of a flatbed truck have already been taken, and I'm told that them playing while descending from rope ladders from a blimp would be impractical.
Do any of you lot have any ideas for locations, or even stunts that could be performed?

Um, produce decent music? If they're sh*t no publicity stunt in the world is going to work.
Yeah, thanks. The best and most popular bands in the world still do promotion, so perhaps it's not unreasonable for a new band with their first set of recordings to want to do some promotion as well, given as hardly anyone's heard of them yet.
At any rate, even producing **** music doesn't seem to matter anymore if you saturate the market enough.
go on a crusade of making grafiti embles with "zeta league" on it, in a cool, professional style of print, and spray it on sidewalks at night. the mystery will soon start to spread through the city; "hey mike, you've seen that print lately?"
then have a party somewhere; "zeta league is opening up" etc, where it is revealed that the zeta league is indeed a band.
a pretty crap band though. what is going on in that runaway song?
How about this as an novel idea? Just gig lots, get involved in the local scene, write decent music so news of you spreads by word of mouth and you get good reviews etc.
Bands (especially small) who do "music stunts" are inevitably ****. I bet they do the random adding of friends on "myspace" as well don't they
Years ago I was queuing at a gig in Camden, when some band turned up on a flat bed truck, they were ****, got severly heckled and then got nicked by the police for onstructing the road. Justice.
If you don't mind getting arrested, then do it somewhere inconvenient and would cause massive annoyance to the public. However, do a song that would get the public's attention.
