i was thinking there earlier about what we, as the human race, have achieved in terms of technological advances since the dawn of mankind. looking at where we are now, there is a direct technological path leading back to the earliest inventions of man (wheel/fire/etc) and was wondering we we 'destined' to end up here anyways. the path of technology must be already determined by what resources the planet has to offer.
i give it to you this; if there are humanoid species on another planet similar to earth, then surely the course of their history (technology wise) would be more or less the same. a plane needs 2 wings to fly. we know this, then surely at some point they will figure this out and build a plane too. maybe they would have achieved this advancement in a quicker time than us?
i dont have any real question or anything here, it was just a thought i had earlier. would this be an agreeable consensus?

depends if they felt the need to kill each other with guns. piston cylinders are derivations of gun barrels, in particular the riffle-ing used on them. so that lead to big machine tools and ultimately steam powered trains.
im not saying without guns we would never have created accurate piston cylinders, but it may have taken a while longer. might even have invented/discovered something else.
