Yeah, Arabic would be a bit of a tricky one. I was in India for a month just recently and tried learning Hindi from the locals, sadly I didn't get much past "Hello" and "Goodbye".
With no Latin connections to anything and even a different alphabet it was just so different in every way.

tbh, If I'd been dating a Ukrainian girl I'd not have learnt much either
Good point Should have been more accurate, she was born in the Ukraine (When it was the USSR) but her mother was Russian. She moved to England with her mother at an early age and learnt Russian from her.
Spoke English as well (If not better) than me though tbh.

I'm going for one of the hardest actually and going for Arabic.
Reason? Think it will be amazingly helpful at work and in society in the future and that culture interests me a lot.
Unfortunately it seems as it's a toughie!
I tried that. My advice is forget it unless you're amazingly dedicated and have 10 years to spare. Forget learning it from a few CDs for a start. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Immersion probably the best way for me in absence of being in acountry where the language is spoken. I listen to language tapes, watch TV and read books and papers. Read out aloud when I can.
