Some people are saying it means education..
I go to a dump of a School, did any one watch Ant & Dec last night? Mr Byrne is my head teacher. I am in all the top classes and got 2 awards last year, History and 10+ Praise from teachers and just missing out on Maths.
| that doesn't mean anything, again.
once you graduate from Cambridge with a First Class Honours (sic) PPE degree, come tell us. </BLOCKQUOTE>
They don't do PPE at Cambridge. Poor Number 7 </BLOCKQUOTE>at Oxford, eh?
you can tell how far I got into looking into Oxbridge when I was searching for schools. should've sacked up and applied, would've got in tbh. ALAS

Fair enough then although that complicates things: what makes someone upper class in America?
| difficult question.
I'd say wealth combined with at least a modicum of influence, be it political, economic, or social. </BLOCKQUOTE>
So basically the Bushes, the Clintons and the Kennedys? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Are the Kennedy family still rich?
I heard they have had loads of ''unfortunate'' events and are just a 'working-class' family.

btw the way class is operationalised is through occupation or the occupation of your parents if you're younger

there's a large difference between at attorney working personal injury claims on his own and a senior partner at a large, established firm.

| Sorry didn't make that clear - I meant more the education you have before your 18.
So Grammer/Private school = middle class, comprehensive = working class.
Obviously many exceptions, and some people would believe it is wrong for Grammer school to be alongside Private..
But yeah - if people don't people education (pre-uni) is the single greatest indicator, what is? Wealth? Occupation?
Oh and agree with people that upper-class is something you're born into - although in very rare circumstances it's possible to enter it.
