can't really label yerself middle class if you either don't own your own company (modern version of landowners from way back) - living off what other people working for you bring into the business, or holding professional qualifications (doctors, the clergy, lawyers etc.).

I think BG definitely aspires to be middle class and his threads are an extension of this. The issues he raises are all the kind of things he imagines that middle class people sit and talk about, instead of watching the telly with their tea on their laps.
