In the Netherlands, Upper Class has no tradition. The few who feel the need to make it known they are descendant of either 'blue blood' or of new or old money, are a bunch of sad cases.
both my parents come from very much working class backgrounds, my dad in Glasgow and my mum in Oxford. They've both come out of it though and i'd say we're a middle class family I think.

You had Stadtholders for centuries, and a Royal Family, how does the Upper Classes not have a tradition?

In a Calvinist country ('act normal, work hard and then maybe god will forgive you for existing when you die') that thrives on wealth made by mainly commoners with a sharp sense of trade, inheriting some title and/or money doesn't score many points. Add a good few spoonfulls of liberalism in later times.
