afaik its all about having a 3+ syllable last name and being a member of the aristocracy. dont think the british upper class is set by money.

iirc, many of the aristocracy are now actually having financial problems and have been forced to open up their stately homes to the public to try and fund their lives. There was a program called the ****ing Fulfords or something a year or two back about this.

exchampions - i'd say the upper classes are those that have a lot of prestige, power and wealth.

So basically the aristocracy are upper class but not all upper class people are in the aristocracy? Fair enough I suppose although I'd be interested to see an example of a non-aristocrat who's upper class.

I suppose high court judges and above could be seen as upper class although I'm not sure they would consider themselves as such.

obviously not true. but then i guess you'll see whatever reality you want when you've already come to a conclusion.
