If you want the best quality laptop around, you want a ThinkPad. 4 out of 5 banks use ThinkPads for that reason.

| Just general use man, I feel if im going to buy one get the best there is, you pay for quality.
Not out of college long and still living at home so working full time and having few expenses! Im thinking splash out on myself before im married with kids! </BLOCKQUOTE>
Paying more doesn't equate with better quality. you can spend £1,000 on a Lenovo Thinkpad and get better build quality and service. Laptop components are expensive, that is where the price goes and on the higher end you are paying far more for much less performance.

Well so far my experience with Dell is truly sucking!!!! Bought a laptop from them, waited six weeks for it and then it breaks after only two days of use!!!!! Now waiting almost three weeks for it to be repaired even although they told me it would be back with my within five working days. I am slowly getting more and more annoyed with Dell.

Lenovo Thinkpads, Apple, ASUS, Fujitsu and Samsung all make the better consumer laptops that you should be able to get easily in Ireland. Sony do make some good notebooks, but they tend to be more expensive and support is some of the worst.
The ntoebookreview site i linked tois really an invaluble source as the most popular notebooks will have hundreds of posts discussing them.

well you need to think what your needs are: eg. 17" screen because i want to watch DVDs.
so is it:
General use: word, internetz, music
Gaming
Photo and Video editing
Media Centre
Work? Portability etc etc
Once we know that then we can start to find suitable models for a nominal fee.
