Ah so when you said a quarter of our prison population is immigrants and their kids you meant only those whose parents are both immigrants?

Silly me.

Still bollox though. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes, that's what I meant. And no, it's not bollox. Read Rvd's link.

Exactly... and all it needed was something like "Stephen Fry is second generation". And we're a page further on because Bert didn't want to educate me.

I mean really, it's brilliant isn't it?

So someone who doesn't mind educating me: is an immigrant themselves first generation, or are their children first generation. I'd appreciate it if someone can clarify for me.

Yes, his mother would be a 1st gen immigrant. But he wouldn't be an immigrant at all.
Which is why I said he'd be the son of an immigrant.

Eh? I did educate you. You now know what makes an immigrant 1st or 2nd generation.

And he would be. But not a 1st or 2nd generation immigrant.

Which I never said he was. All I said was he was the son of an immigrant and you said 'keep trying'.

Then why were you quoting me saying that children of soldiers born abroad are classed as immigrants on returning to the UK? Fry's father wasn't a soldier, and Fry wasn't born abroad. See?

I'm going to lunch to get over my intense disappointment.

I also had someone smash into the back of my car this morning, and I'm actually starting to get a headache now... but it could be a Bert induced one rather than from the jolt.
