Continue to play 01/02 to this day, even better with the regular updates now coming out. Find FM dull and convoluted in comparison.

01/02 will be the game I have spent the most hours on, ever though, so SI have my utmost thanks for that. Just a shame I no longer find their games enjoyable.

Had a few games on 05 and 07, but nothing to rival the epic swathes of time I spent on CM 97/98 and 01/02.

Will probably buy 08 though anyway.

Still playing 01/02. Go through phases where I'll play it a fair bit and then not touch it for ages. Tried some of the FMs but they just require too much investment of my time and usually need a PC way more advanced than the hand me downs I tend to have. SI forgot they were supposed to be fun years ago and tilted too much towards the simulation side. That's when they lost me.

Thought it might be fun to play the 08 with all the money flowing around the premiership these days and the active transfer market plus also the fact that my team QPR have been taken over and should have some cash to splash.

Then i played the demo and realised that no one has any money still, the tactics and match engine are identical to the 07 game (tedious and overly complicated) and it's just plain ugly to look at!

Why are you guys all playing an updated version of CM 01/02? sell it to me!

From what I remember in comparison to today's FM, that game was very shallow, you could win very unrealistically with narrow tactics and having strikers scoring 100 goals + a season, thats exactly what I dont want from a manager game in honesty.

Also I remember I could start in the Conference and then tell your scouts to look for free youngsters constantly, he'll then never fail to come back with a group of players that would rival the mid 90's's Man Utd squad everytime.

Have all these issues been fixed or something?

Nope. Works exactly like that pretty much. You can Tapanify the .exe if you want which makes the narrow tactics useless but yeah it's still all about finding those kids with their big potential. It's shallow but I have humans for deep interaction. Games are something I want to do while cooking or watching TV.

Thread on this or the next page of threads David. A "Tapani" patch improves the AI, moves the start date and generally improves the game, as well as updating all the data.
