Wouldn’t have a problem since he’s already a smoker so it’s not like I’m starting him on the road to cancer.

If he wasn’t a smoker and asked to borrow money to try them then I’d have a harder choice, although I’d probably still lend him the money.

It does make one sound quite sanctimonious if you do refuse on the basis that you know what is best for your mate.

I'd refuse, but on the grounds that needing to borrow £10 to buy cigarettes is pathetic and they should be able to organise their own finances properly. I'm not anti-smoking at all.

ffs, he might just not have cash on him. How do you keep your friends if you're giving them a lecture about something as banal as this?

I only have one friend who smokes. I'd lend him it no problem if it was something like he'd forgotten his wallet and would give it back the next day, but if he's just got no money then that's his problem for not having a job.

Stop crying - If that was the case then the friend obviously wouldn't come under the situation of someone unable to organise their finances.
