Or, join a team where the manager is a scout/connected to a certain club

That usually gets you a trial if you are good.

I play for Castletown Junior Football Club, in penrith. You know them? </BLOCKQUOTE>
I've heard the name mentioned, maybe played them at U12 or U10, other than that no.

Somebody mentioned writing to Carlisle which is a good idea, you should also try writing to Gretna. They do a lot of work with youths in Cumbria.

I think a club would be quite impressed with a letter stating who you are, where you play, who you play for and a bit about yourself as a person. Especially if it is well written.

Exactly, some non league club with an ex pro or two in the squad. </BLOCKQUOTE>

It worked for my brother and a few others in his team.

His manager is a Man City scout, so he gets them trials there quite easily (and in other teams).

I wrote to clubs. My advice is dont bother. Waste of money and time. I got one reply with actually offering me to go and play at some soccer school kind of thing which you had to pay for.

Tbh mate the best thing you can do is just play your football. An at a decent club which wins leagues etc I got two trials doing that with Charlton and Norwich.

It's not if you are good enough they will find you it's if you are good and get yourself out there they are more likely to find you.

Definitely dont have any concerns about writing or calling all of them. I believe alot of professionals did simiilar things 'back in the day' - be prepared for rejection and most likely focus your calls clubs more local. If you're far away then mention you will travel in written correspondence.

I'd say do both. You never know with writing as well. Some club may have just started a new in take of youngsters or something

Definately do this. My brother had 6 week trials at West Ham and Spurs through this. Not to mention a whole host of other clubs coming to watch him.

Also - try FootballCV - a website that has trial games etc. If your good - you'll get feedback from the scouts and get asked to play again. Pretty much every club goes to these trials at some point or another. You play at top football grounds around the country with scouts watching.

Tis good, but only worth while if your good enough.

I had a trial with Cardiff at the age of 16, they didn't think I was good enough at the time for championship but said I could maybe make it at a lower grade, so they generously organised trials for me at Hereford town (Conference at the time) Bury, Wrexham and Bristol Rovers (League 2 at the time.) Didn't work out at any of them apart from Wrexham who offered me a scholaship type thing for a year, so I had too make a choice of staying on for college at home with friends or family, or going for it and leaving all family/friends and going up too Wrexham. However there was no guarentee of any sort that I would 'make it' so I declined the offer and carried on in College.
