Curits Davies woudln't be a professional footballer if he didn't write to Luton begging us to give him a trial as he was kicked out of Wimbledon youth set up with all the other players when the team moved to MK

no harm firing off letters at all. chances of success are pretty slim but you may as well exhaust all avenues so you're not left wondering if you could have done more. worst that happens is they say no/don't reply.

I wrote to a bunch of below-the-conference clubs asking for a trial when I was at Uni.
Burton Albion invited me along. They sensibly did not sign me. I did quite well for half an hour then the pace of even semi-pro got to me and I just got worse and worse as the fitness waned.
Was good fun though and they were dead friendly.
