Basically I am really struggling to get to sleep at the moment, help!
I struggle to sleep with virtually any noise - people talking a few rooms away, even relatively quietly, or the distant noise of tv - think it's just because (growing up in the countryside) I have got used to sleeping with no background noise, and now struggle tbh - was fine my first year at university because my flatmates were all rejects, and never made any noise, but now I'm living with people I actually like...basically they're not being very noisy at all, like I say even the smallest noise seems too stop me sleeping.
So yeah - what should I do? WIll I eventually get used to it? Or get some kind of ear-plugs? Any reccomendations? But worried if I do that my alarm won't wake me up - can you get ear plugs with alarms built in now?
Cheers.
Posted this in the night thread but no-one there - someone save me!
Go to google, and search for James Fennimore Cooper stories. Move the keyboard somewhere safe from your drool. Start reading. Wake up hours later with your head on the desk.
Don't go to bed until you feel tired. You might be a mess the next day but you'll get a great nights sleep the next day. Also don't do anything other than have sex and sleep in your bed, that way your mind will almost always associate you getting into bed as time to sleep.
If you stay up, don't watch TV or read, they keep your mind more active. Do a jigsaw puzzle or something equally repetitive. You should get bored and sleepy from this.

Agreed with this - fell asleep trying to finish one of these years ago and still had the piece pattern dented into my face when I got to work the next day
You could always try and substitute a soothing recorded background noise like rain - you can buy/download recordings and play them quietly in the background while you go to sleep. It's worked for me in the past.
Also, making sure you're exercising, eating right and avoiding stimulants such as caffeine a good 4 hours before going to sleep is a sensible move too.
When I have issues sleeping I chill out to some ambient music like someone has suggested. My favourite is an online one called Cryosleep, google it and you'll find it
