Default English Towns and Football

Are there any towns in England with a population of 10,000 or more than don't have a football squad organized into some sort of league?

Depends what you mean by some sort of league. Pretty sure 90% of places with 1,000 will have some kind of team in some kind of league tbh, let alone 10k.

Peterlee Newtown FC are no longer registered in a league due to financial problems - and thats a town of around 28000 people.

Yeah, that's basically the issue.

What I'm trying to do is this: Over the last three years, with each edition of FM, I've created and played a fictional team in the French town of Tonnerre. This year, I'd like try and play in England, and I'm looking for a host town that could supply a fan base for a Conference side, preferably one that doesn't already have a squad to compete with, or whose R/L inhabitants wouldn't say, "You took what side to the Premiership? What about our side?"

Well as aj mentioned, Guildford have the fanbase and although they have a few teams, they are so far down the league structure that they wouldn't really be relevant.

Okay, Guildford for one possibility.

I guess I'd settle for anywhere that doesn't have a side competing in any level of the FA Cup.

Wickford in Essex doesn't have a team. It has plenty of junior teams but absolute no teams playing in any of the senior leagues afaik.
