That's a very good point. But then the question is are SI right to give the community a better opportunity to fill in the gaps or wrong to be relying on the community in the first place?

seeing as there are always people willing to sort the logos/facepacks out and they're ultimately purely cosmetic anyway, i'd much rather SI spent their money elsewhere if various leagues and FA's are demanding extortionate fees for the different licences.

They should clearly be doing a better job themselves, but one of FM's strengths has always been its customisability(?). Being able to edit XML to get a screen looking exactly the way you want is pretty cool. Which is also one of the reasons the Xbox version is so inferior.

I haven't tried to customise 08 at all yet, but thought I'd heard something that suggested they'd made it harder now? Files are compressed in .fmf format or something?

To an extent yes, but the list of stuff that you have to do to the game before starting if you want it to be any good is ever-increasing. Stuff like getting the Day 1 patch, removing/changing the .lnc files, finding a usable skin, getting a logo/facepack which replaces the generic Premiership ones etc.

I take it that at least Harchester are long gone, yes?

wait, if the researchers are doing it for free, how does downloading it effect them? they get no money for it, but the same staisfaction that people are enjoying the research they did even if it is illegally. it's no real lose to them is it XD
