I would expect many of the downloaders are 13 year olds, who's parents will buy them the game but make them wait until Jesus' birthday. For some bizarre reason.

Halo 3 is literally Halo but prettier, and a gazillion people have paid 2/4X the price on FM for that. I know comparing isn't wholly relevant, but FM makes more strides than some far more high profile games, and they get jizzed over.

No real point there, but how do you judge 4 versions of progress unless you're in there working on it?

I'd say each consumer has to make their own judgement, and mine today is that they're using a new skin to try to mask the fact that this is just FM07 with some useless features and some bug fixes.

SI can say it's progressed, but it's irrelevant if the user can't see it. Perhaps the match engine and a new skin will win me round after the game's been patched.

Pretty much my thoughts too. There's a difference between "progress" and "changes". Most of the changes in FM08 have been for the worse imo, most of them make me think "um, I preferred the way it used to do that"

The skin and the interface in general appears to be an example of what happens when you over-design something. Some usability study a couple of years back obviously told them that icons are a lot more user-friendly than text, so they've just crammed the interface full of the things. And they've increased the amount of space for facepacks/logos, despite the fact that they still haven't been able to licence most of the more popular leagues.
