As has already been mentioned, Open Office, The GIMP, Inkscape is a nice substitute for Adobe Illustrator, Blender is a good sub for 3d Studio, Audacity is an ok replacement for Cubase/Logic.
Have a look here. That's a directory of most of the open source projects on the internet giving you a discription etc. Naturally SourceForge is another huge directory of them.
i can't be bothered to start a new thread, but does anyone know any good bittorrent clients i can use on linux? azureus is an utter hog and all the others i've tried aren't particularly powerful. it's the one thing i'm missing from my dying windows xp install.
