mkstatto is infamous around these parts
Default Open Source

Recently i purchased a brand new Pc, and i was wondering what peoples thoughts were on open source software.

In particular i'm not looking to spend money on microsoft office and a top quality photo editing/graphical package.

I'd be pleased with any suggestions or user experiance given.

Thanks

You can get Open Office and GIMP for Windows. I'm not sure about Vista since I am resisting installing it until it actually works properly.

As has already been mentioned, Open Office, The GIMP, Inkscape is a nice substitute for Adobe Illustrator, Blender is a good sub for 3d Studio, Audacity is an ok replacement for Cubase/Logic.

Have a look here. That's a directory of most of the open source projects on the internet giving you a discription etc. Naturally SourceForge is another huge directory of them.

nope, but if you insist on using it, it works perfectly under wine.
