How racist would your partner have to be before you leave her? Post #21 | | Newb

Yes, I think racism would rear it's ugly head pretty early on.
You could just start a conversation which would give you an idea. Any topic in the Daily Mail should do... if she repeats what they are saying then show her the door. Although for me anyone who just repeats what they read in the media would be out anyway. I'm so fussy.

I've actually stopped seeing a girl because of a racial stereotype. we've got two brilliant players in our futsal team, named hi-sham and amin. both are moroccan. one day they couldn't make it, and she asked me the following: "why weren't the two ahmeds there?".
never went out with her again.

Actually I'm trying to work out at what stage the racist or whatever thoughts would come to the fore. Thinking about a few mates who I've got know idea about their thoughts on the matter, as it's never come up in conversation.
I think being in a relationship would be different though, but perhaps it's not as black and white as I made out initially.

Don’t think it would always rear itself early on though. Fair enough if you take her for a meal and she starts calling the waiter Samba then you’ve picked up on it quite early.
On the other hand you could go out for 6 months before seeing a Chinese guy on TV and seeing her do her impressions at which point I’d rather try to make her see the error of her ways than just kick her out the door.

so yeah, I'm a very multicultural guy due to my studies and my profession (work with a filmfestival that only shows asian, african and south american films), so I expect the very same from my girlfriend.

It wouldnt put me off in the slightest. I'd imagine i'd have formed my opinions of the person before they felt comfortable enough to air their racist views and then it would be past the point of them putting me off.

I wouldn't be so concerned about a flippant comment because I think people can take it all a bit too seriously.
A bloke I work with is from the Seychelles and we banter all the time, and race and national comments are all part of it. He aims stereotypical white comments at me, and I return fire in kind. That's not what I mean, because in my mind people who are too conscious of race and will baulk at any comment regarding it, are by definition racist (treating people different due to their race).
But it's a far cry from that and seriously racist beliefs. I can't remember ever being surprised at a girl's attitude six months in.
