The thing people tend to forget when mentioning the likes of Ross and Nortans contracts is that the amount isnt just there wages, some of it goes to there production companies to make the shows as well.
ITV has a similar deal with Ant & Dec.

| thats true. I would like to see Ross do more things though, he did this programme about Steve Ditko for BBC4 and normally i have no interest in comics, but it was really enjoyable.

exactly what I said tbf. what do you suggest they produce in place, to satisfy the Thursday night audience, for a politically based debate show?

Question Time varies in quality hugely depending on the panalists and the audience. Last week it was qg, sometimes it's unbearably poor. Just because removing it wouldn't create anarchy, that doesn't mean that it doesn't 'serve a purpose' btw. A regular dialogue between the people and their representatives is pretty important within a representative democracy and QT is an OK way of allowing that to happen. It's probably the worst of their politics shows, but it's still entertaining and I can't reallyt hink of anything on any other channel that's better than it. The reason for the last point is, probably, because it's not commercially viable which would suggest that it's exactly the kind of thing the BBC should be doing.
For the record:
This Week > Newsnight > Politics Show > Sunday AM > Question Time
