There is a massive lack of decent drama on BBC now. They've taken the route of latching on to HBO a couple of times, which is fine, but they're not going to make programmes specifically for British audiences are they?

The BBC shouldn't be aiming for mass market stuff that's available anywhere really, it should be aiming to wheel out the stuff that is high quality/brow but not commerically viable (Question Time et al)

As long as the new shows that they still do produce include Top Gear, MOTD, Spooks and QI then I'm not really that bothered.
Oh, and they had better keep making series' of the Apprentice

If I was in charge and planning to cut loads of jobs and still increase the license fee over the next few years I would stop commissioning shows like Celebrity Lawn Mowing and invest in more documentaries and new comedy. Add 10% to the budget of all radio and would stop showing endless repeats of 2 pints of chuffing lager. Thank you.
| You're a moby. That's what YOU want but a lot of people don't care about. They're never going to appeal to everyone in the country so if there is always going to be some stuff that you like and some you don't. If enough people watch 'Celebrity Lawn Mowing', it's staying. Your issue is with the people that watch it. </BLOCKQUOTE>
That's why I started my post with "If I was in charge...."
I'm a moby; whatever that is.
So 16m watch Eastenders, but that means 44m don't yet they continue to make it.
Any chance we could get Celebrity Lawn Mowing commissioned? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Holly & Fearne Go Lawn Mowing.

BBC really has a lot of good stuff, however it is overfilled with crud. Their level of Sport has gone down considerably in recent years (not really surprising with Sky on the scene). However what they do best is 'high brow' comedy, and that should never be stopped, Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Blackadder. Stuff like that should be discovered again, though the likes of C4 with Spaced and Black Books have stolen a march in the last 10 years.

Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers and Blackadder aren't highbrow. You're confusing "highbrow" with "good".
But you're right, aside from the Thick of It the BBC have produced very little of note since The Office.
And then they buy geniunely brilliant shows from the US then **** them away at 11:30 on a Sunday night, all the while complaining that "it just didn't find an audience".
