kill rock stars were great when they regularly had elliott smith and sleater kinney stuff to release and back up their nicher stuff with some real quality/consistency. They're pretty patchy now.

I couldn't honestly mention a record label that currently exists where I'd buy stuff just on the strength of it coming from that label. Maybe Rhino, actually, though they're not a conventional label working with extant bands, as their boxed sets are without exception just utterly stunningly good. The girlgroups and 60s garage punk ones especially.

Best label in history probably blast first / sst in the 80s.

Nuclear Blast are pretty fb, as are the aforementioned Earache. I'll have to say Roadrunner with them having two of my favourite bands in Opeth and Dream Theater. Not a big fan of the rest of the stuff they have though.
