Yeah I left my phone on once when I packed it into my checked luggage. Was on the way from Hong Kong back to London so by the time I unpacked it it was like the UN in my inbox.

Supposedly, but I see people happily chatting away on them while pumping the petrol. </BLOCKQUOTE>

i remember seeing a Brainiac experiment with this when they doused a caravan with petrol all over the inside and left about 10 mobile phones spread out on the tables etc they then called all 10 phones at the same time, but alas not even the flicker of an explosion was detected

someone once told me ( no idea if its true ) that reception is available up in the plane but airlines tell us to switch it off for saftey reasons obv but also forces those that need a phone call to use their premium airline phone service as opposed to the customers mobile.

yeah i dont think the recpetion itself makes it dangerous but more the static from the mobile and clothes can easily be travelled to fume vapours.

Yeah i've definately seen a programme (brainiac?) where they literally filled the back of a transit van with mobile phones and covered the van in petrol etc... nothing happened when they rang it.

But i suppose if there is a 1000000-1 shot a mobile could cause a petrol station to blow up then its fair enough not using your mobile for 5 minutes when filling up.
