Well I know that but they were at the height of success back then and there is a smack of overratedness about them. Cobain and Nirvana aren't as good as people like to proclaim.
eh, i'd say nirvana are under-rated if anything (and yes, i do mean that)
nirvana > soundgarden > temple of the dog > mudhoney > pearl jam > alice in chains

It's hard to say but they were huge at the time - they had well and truly made it, and Cobain was a world-wide superstar. I think the mythos has been increased by his death, and maybe the longevity of their popularity.
But, they were recognised as an important band in terms of influence even before his death imo. It wasn't that they were any better than the others, they just managed to capture the imagination of the general music public... but that cerainly helped the Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Mudhoney bands amongst others as well... and also pseudo-'grunge' like Stone Temple Pilots.
Kinda like Jim Morrison. I should point out when I am talking about Cobain being overrated I am talking about the people that have him as a martyr. Best song-writer ever and various other stuff </BLOCKQUOTE>
ah, okay, ignore the above post then. Cobain clearly a ****
What are you talking about Raf... Gary hasn't said anything of the sort. He's just saying that some people go overboard when it comes to the myth of Cobain. And even as a fan of Nirvana and the whole Sub-pop/grunge/whatever you want to call it scene... he has a point. It's not Cobain's fault and I suspect he'd hate it himself.
