and what fs said about how i slowed down... </BLOCKQUOTE>

What i meant was, your first description of the event was that you were doing 50 in a 50 zone. Then later on you said you were doing 29 in a 40 zone. You haven't clarified where you were in relation to the lights at either point, and the fact that there's no way the speed limit would change close enough to the lights for them both to be relevant made me think you were changing your story, not adding to it.

The g has a point. If you were doing 29mph through the traffic light then you were clearly going too fast.

tbh if you were approaching the lights at 29mph, and saw the amber lights I can't believe you couldn't stop in time even downhill. I suspect you didn't slow down when you saw the amber lights, only when you saw the red.

But yet if I am doing 50mph on a 60mph road I get told I would fail my test for that </BLOCKQUOTE>

Depends on the road itself and the conditions. There's plenty of de-restricted roads (i.e. the national speed limit of 60) where it's not safe to drive at that speed no matter what and so you wouldn't be expected to. If it's a wide and straight road with good visibility, then yeah you probably would be though. The key is appropriate speed.

Well played Gimpeh for reading way too much into what everyone was saying in order to take the moral high ground.
