yes i understand that, however the law states that you may drive upto the speed limit. I am completely aware that i am in the wrong, however i maintain that i was doing a safe, and legal speed.
If your speed was such that you weren't able to stop at the traffic lights before they went to read, then it clearly wasn't safe.
The mere fact that you weren't speeding doesn't mean that you were driving legally and safely, only that you weren't breaking that one specific law. </BLOCKQUOTE>
well ok, it felt safe at the time then, maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, hard to say after the event tbh. But at the time i felt that i was driving perfectly safely.
I don't have a problem with paying it ffs, allready stated that, i just wanted to know if they could tell how far i was from the lights when they changed to amber/red - wasn't looking for a discussion into how good my driving was tbh. </BLOCKQUOTE>
he fact that you weren't able to stop in time shows you weren't driving safely. How far you were from the lights when they changed is neither here nor there.

******** imo, even if i had of been doing 30 as i approached the lights, with it being down hill as well, i wouldn't be able to stop in time imo.

Any advice/experience would be appreciated.
How long did it take for the letter to come through your door? I went through a red almost 3 weeks ago and still no letter. Bearing in mind there was a postal strike so that may have delayed it.

Wouldn't hurt to challenge. I don't know what they're like over there, but the Dept. of Transportation are quite reasonable over here, but there's always the risk of human error in laying downs signs or speed limits. If there's been a pattern of light-skipping at that point, then the judge should take that into account.
There are two cases I can recall of that happening in my area:
-Sudden change in speed limits, where people couldn't slow down in time. So this was re-signed.
-The length of the amber light was not altered in the winter, so you had people unable to stop in time in the snow. The length of the amber light was increased, as is usually the case in bad winter weather anyway.
Either of these could correspond to your case, in that they should either lower the speed limit or lengthen the time the amber takes to change to red.

That's a bit stupid having a red light on a 50mph downhill road.
a449 between stafford and wolverhampton has 2 sets of lights in a national limit stretch of road. and the sensors only work to detect when there is no traffic coming through on green - so that means having to stop from 60/65/70, only for no cars to go across the junction in 10 seconds, before you have to build your speed up again.
admittedly, its not on a slope, but still...

decided i won't be appealing, but just as a side note the speed limit is actually 40 on that road, and i was doing 29 - which again imo is a safe speed.
