If you think you have a chance with her, just go in for a kiss because words will just leave more room for error and will give her time to back off if she has a bit of doubt (friendship and all that). With a kiss you can just wait for the moment and surprise her and see how she takes it. If she turns away you can still save yourself some pride or just punch her in the side of the head and shag her when she's unconscious.

The kiss the better option after you've both had a few drinks, that way if she doesn't react the way you want you can ring her in the morning and apologise and blame it on the drink.

I think the important lesson that anyone can learn from this thread (and is actually in the ladder theory) is that if you fancy a woman let her know way before she gets to the point where she sees you as just a friend.
