New laptop, got vista on it already, I've come to do an essay, and I couldn't find word, has it been replaced by the Works word processor? I used that anyway, typed up the essay and emailed it to an XP computer, where it didn't recognise the file type, so I had to select 'open with' and 'word'
So in summary, has word gone, and am I going to have to 'open with' every time I send it to another machine?
Word isn't a part of Windows, and never has been. Wordpad is as close to word that you'll get without having to buy Microsoft Office or downloading Open Office.
To turn Aero off, go to control panel >> Personalization >> Windows Colour and appearance and click open classic appaerance options and then change to Vista Basic.
it is pretty cool isn't it, just someone said it was less of a drain on the system when its switched off.
anyway, thanks all, now i think about it, i remember having to install a separate cd on the old computers with word on it, don't suppose i can use the same cd for this one can i?
Obviously it's more of a drain, but if your laptop can take it (and it should being new and fitted out with Vista) it's well worth having it on.

Yeah, you can install your old word on vista.
At least I think you can, haven't tried it myself as I have Office 2007, which is indeed fb.
