on the Villa/Mancs game, my first opinion was Carson deserved to go - but watching the replay, you see Osbourne is on the line and could possibly have stopped Tevez's shot if he had got past Carson
so I think a yellow would have sufficied, didn't see the Everton/Pool one
Phil Neville decided to be a goalkeeper as his goalkeeper was out of his goal and done a great save with his hands.
First penalty an Everton defender had Gerrards shirt hoding him back but Gerrard also had a bit of the defenders shirt.

If a player makes a profesional foul in the box do you agree he should be sent off or is a yellow card and a penalty enough? Post #13

a professional foul is an intentional foul. If a player inentional fouls someone anyone on the pitch, he should be sent off

Since the GK is not counted as a 'last man' when a defender fouls a player through on goal, if the GK commits the foul, does the defender on the line count as a last man, in a similar way to the offside rule?

seeing as there isn't any specific mention of 'last man' = red card for foul anywhere in the rules, i'd say it's a moot point either way.

Utterly cynical fouls should be a red. Seeing a player run through and taking his legs out from under him is cheating, pure and simple. Genuinely making a challenge and getting it wrong isn't. That's the difference refs should look at and ideally a yellow would be given if the incident was a mistake.
I considered for a moment the idea of sending off the player if the penalty was missed, but that leaves an opening for abuse, which teams perhaps missing penalties if they feel the man advantage is better than a single goal. Rare, but best to avoid it.
