Thanks for your help everyone, especially Kris :thup: However, I've had a look at that wikipedia entry and I still don't understand, sorry but I'm a bit thick with things like this.

Look, if you can feel raised bumps on a laptops screen then either the LC membrane has burst or you have gunk on it.

Ive never known a LC membrane to burst so find your question confusing. does these "bumps" reflect the screen image or are they black?

Umm, I don't know how to put it, they look dark-ish, however give that pixelated look like when a suede (or is it tweed) jacket is on the TV.

And is it raised above the surface of the lcd, ie can you actually feel it?

If not then its a dead pixel as mentioned by Serps and myself.
